Vertical bands that swell and pinch, over and over, up the whole height. A Heian court pattern — the classic versions fill each bulge with clouds, waves or bamboo, and carry those names (雲立湧, 波立湧, 笹立湧). This is the plain form, with each edge drawn as a pair rather than a single line.

Most people who make one of these go dark: near-black ink on black is the most-used palette on the site, because a wallpaper that recedes leaves your icons legible. It looks nothing like the bright version below — which is rather the point of being able to pick.
