Sazanami漣

Sazanami means ripples. There is a traditional sazanami — sazanami-gumi, a 24-strand kumihimo braid named for the way it ripples, old enough that the earliest portrait of Prince Shōtoku appears to show him wearing one. But that's a braided cord, and this is a woven field of rings: common enough that you'll meet it in any pile of Japanese-looking patterns, though I've never found a traditional name for it. So the name here is borrowed, and probably wrong.

Most people who make one of these go dark: near-black ink on black is the most-used palette on the site, because a wallpaper that recedes leaves your icons legible. It looks nothing like the bright version below — which is rather the point of being able to pick.
