Asanoha

hemp leaf

A six-pointed star built from hemp leaves. Hemp grows fast and straight and asks for almost nothing, and before cotton arrived it was what ordinary clothes were made of. So it went on babies and children — grow like this. It's an aggregate of triangles, and the triangle turns away evil, which doesn't hurt either. You'll find it on Buddhist statuary from the Heian period onward.

Most people who make one of these go dark: near-black ink on black is the most-used palette on the site, because a wallpaper that recedes leaves your icons legible. It looks nothing like the bright version below — which is rather the point of being able to pick.
